Job Summary:
Senior Software Engineer – Prime Product eCommerce
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and modernization of customer-facing digital platforms that power Shop, Prime Online, Cat.com, and other enterprise commerce experiences. This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, modern web development, cloud architecture, AI-assisted engineering, and specification-driven development practices.
What You Will Do:
Design, develop, and support scalable web applications, APIs, and integrations.
Lead technical solution design and architecture decisions across complex initiatives.
Develop modern digital experiences using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and cloud-native technologies.
Implement resilient integrations with enterprise platforms including Dealer ERP, DLS, Helios, ONE, and other business systems.
Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and DevOps practices.
Collaborate closely with Product Owners, UX, Architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.

Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of application design and architecture principles and practices; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools, and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Considerations For Top Candidates:
5+ years of software engineering experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications.
Strong experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, and modern web development frameworks.
Experience deploying and supporting applications on Vercel and/or cloud platforms such as AWS.
Strong understanding of microservices, API-first design, event-driven architecture, Micro Frontends (MFE), and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns.
Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, performance optimization, monitoring, and observability.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical discussions and decisions.
AI & Specification-Driven Development
Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar platforms.
Ability to leverage AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and code reviews.
Experience with Specification-Driven Development (SDD), translating business requirements into detailed technical specifications and implementation plans.
Ability to create specifications that align requirements, architecture, development, testing, and deployment activities.
Strong understanding of responsible AI usage, validation of AI-generated code, and engineering governance practices.
Preferred Skills
Experience headless CMS, or composable architecture platforms.
Composable commerce and digital customer experience platforms.
Feature flagging and progressive rollout technologies such as LaunchDarkly.
Contract testing, MSW, Playwright, Cypress, Pact, and modern QA automation practices.
Experience leading platform modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
