About IDES
Caterpillar’s Integrated Drivetrain Energy Solutions (IDES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary
As an Electrification Systems Sr. Engineering Team Lead, you will help shape next-generation electrified power systems for Caterpillar’s Power and Energy customers. The position will define customer requirements and influence system architecture for emerging electrification product lines that support customer sustainability and operational goals. This role works across multiple divisions to translate market needs into architecture, interface, and integration requirements that help customers achieve practical operational outcomes.
This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, including the ability to align cross-functional teams, manage sensitive technical and commercial topics, and persuade stakeholders on new technologies, applications, and system-level solutions.
What you will do
- Lead architecture definition and implementation for electric powertrain and hybrid system projects serving Caterpillar’s Power and Energy market segments, including Defense, Marine, Industrial Power, Electric Power, Oil and Gas, and OEM Solutions applications.
- Translate customer and market-segment needs into application requirements for power conversion products, battery packs, inverters, motor generators, chargers, and energy storage systems.
- Own product requirements, internal and external interface requirements, and cost-value tradeoffs from early concept through NPI execution.
- Apply cross-system knowledge of battery systems, inverters, motor generators, controls, cooling, high-voltage integration, software, and validation processes to guide architecture decisions.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, product management, NPI, purchasing, product support, and business development teams to make high-level decisions that impact products, processes, facilities, and customer deliverables.
What you will have
Degree Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Extensive experience in powertrain, drivetrain, or electrified system development.
• Experience with new product introduction, requirements management, and FMEA-based product development.
• Experience with powertrain or drivetrain development for mechanical, hybrid, or battery-electric systems.
Products and Services: Extensive experience and knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
• Oversees development activities for multiple products or product lines.
• Advises colleagues on implementation and operational considerations.
• Coaches others on key factors that differentiate offerings from that of competition.
• Develops procedures for product planning, development, and delivery cycles.
• Promotes understanding of multiple product and service groups and their interdependencies.
• Monitors regulatory and environmental issues and considerations.

• Leads cross-functional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development.
• Develops organizational best practices for the management of product design and development.
• Establishes new product development strategies and processes for the organization.
• Predicts future trends of product design and development.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive experience and knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
• Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
• Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.
• Monitors machine performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.
• Coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-vendor environment.
• Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.
• Uses advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.
Top Candidates Will Have
• 10 years experience in powertrain, drivetrain, or electrified system development.
• Experience defining early-stage programs and navigating ambiguity to connect customer needs, project constraints, and business value into practical product and project recommendations.
• Electrification architecture experience for integrated electric-hybrid or battery-electric systems.
• Proven ability to work across commercial, engineering, and product-support teams with strong communication, collaboration, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
• Experience leading product development with Caterpillar electrification systems and components.

Summary Pay Range:
$147,760.00 - $221,640.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
