About Us:

The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

About The Opportunity:

Analyses, designs, programs, debugs, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related computer programs. Code may be used in commercial or end-user applications, such as materials management, financial management, HRIS, mobile apps or desktop applications’ products. Using current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. May interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.

As a Specialist, serves as a subject matter expert driving architectural directions, cross-team technical alignment, continuous organizational improvements, and global team initiatives.

• Collaborate with tech stewards and architect solutions for challenging problems.
• Lead process changes and continuous improvements across the organization, driving global teams to adopt best practices.
• Possess specialized depth and/or breadth of technical expertise across the job family.
• Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
• Leads others to solve complex problems; works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors; resolves complex issues using sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions.
• Works independently, receiving guidance in only the most complex situations.
• Leads organization function teams or projects with resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity; determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
• Impacts the achievement of customer, operational, project, or service objectives; work is guided by organization function policies.

Other Duties

Skills / Competencies:

• Architect and design robust solutions for complex and challenging software engineering problems in collaboration with technical stewards.
• Drive continuous process improvements and software quality standards across multi-disciplinary global teams.
• Develop and maintain machine control applications by writing high-quality code in C++.
• Develop and maintain web applications written in Angular and TypeScript. Write automated tests and unit tests to prove correctness of the software.
• Review and provide valuable feedback in code changes of peers, mentoring engineers across global locations.
• Collaborate with application domain experts and software developers across multiple international sites to deliver identified customer value.
• Demonstrate a set of fundamental software engineering skills that result in predictability in engineering, scheduling, and the quality of products developed.
• Debug software and investigate customer reports to solve complex product issues.

Qualifications / Experience:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent.
• Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) developing web applications or applications written in C++ within a Windows or Linux environment, including technical leadership roles.
• Proven track record of collaborating with tech stewards to architect solutions for complex engineering problems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and technical changes driving global cross-site teams.
• Exposure to communication and networking protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, and other automotive protocols is an added advantage.
• Experience with Android application development is an advantage.
• Experience with web browser-based UI software development would be an advantage.
• Experience with Golang would be beneficial.
