Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division has an open opportunity as a Manager, Sales Engineering. The Manager, Sales Engineering will lead a global team of sales engineers to provide technical guidance for gas product customers preparing tailored solutions, and driving high-value enterprise deals.

What you will do:

  • Bridge technical expertise with sales strategy; leading a team of sales engineers to deliver customized solutions for complex gas projects.

  • Partner with sales leadership to act as key sponsor in high-stakes, technical deals and provide escalation support.

  • Define and implement a global technical support operating model – allowing for specific regional needs.

  • Team leadership and talent management - train & mentor global sales engineers to provide technical support for gas projects balance of plant.

• Facilitates creation of the 'right' products and services to resolve customer business issues.
• Fosters strong customer relationships via delivery on commitments, open communication, and on-going feedback/improvement.
• Advises others on creating customer focused environments in various scenarios.
• Anticipates customer needs, focusing efforts to proactively meet needs and exceed customer expectations.
• Measures and observes customer satisfaction levels to ascertain and implement service improvement alternatives.
• Communicates and models the criticality of customer focus as an organizational strategy.

Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

• Educates others on own organization in terms of the industry - its market position, niche (if any), etc..
• Compares and contrasts the latest developments and emerging issues in the industry.

• Discusses industry-specific cycles and associated considerations.

Value Selling: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs.

• Acquires and retains customers in multiple settings using 'value selling' techniques.
• Coaches others on the application of 'value selling' principles and practices.
• Delivers value-added services to customers beyond delivery of a purchased product, technology or service consistently.
• Qualifies sales prospects based on a clear understanding of customer business needs and the service company's determined ability to meet those needs.
• Solicits feedback from the customer community as a valued service provider.
• Teaches and coaches 'value selling' to others within the organization.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Prior leadership experience – hiring, training, and building a team

  • Technical sales or equivalent experience

  • Demonstration of strong strategic thinking and problem-solving

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple functions

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Irving, TX or Lafayette, IN.

  • Travel up to 30% is required.

  • Domestic relocation assistance is offered for this position.

  • Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.

  • This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $238,680.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
