Job Summary:
Caterpillar is seeking a Manager, Software Engineer with strong hands‑on technical expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) and proven people‑management capabilities. This role combines deep technical leadership with team management responsibility to deliver enterprise‑grade ERP solutions.

The ideal candidate will lead end‑to‑end D365 F&O implementations, define scalable and secure technical architectures, drive integrations across enterprise platforms, and manage high‑performing engineering teams. The role requires active contribution to solution design and development while coaching engineers, enforcing technical governance, and driving delivery excellence.

What You Will Do:

This role will lead the end‑to‑end design, development, and delivery of scalable enterprise solutions across Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement and Finance & Operations. Responsibilities span multiple modules, including Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations and Commerce. The Solution Architect will be accountable for designing, building, and implementing complex solutions that integrate seamlessly across these Dynamics 365 applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and business value.

Key responsibilities include:

Technical & Solution Leadership

• Lead the end‑to‑end design, development, and delivery of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O solutions across Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations, and Commerce modules.

• Define and own technical architecture, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and alignment with business requirements.

• Act as the senior technical authority for D365 F&O implementations, upgrades, integrations, and customizations.

• Partner with functional leads, program managers, PMO, and external vendors to align technical strategy with business outcomes.

Hands‑On Development & Governance

• Maintain hands‑on involvement in X++ development, extensions, and critical technical components.

• Drive customization and extension development using X++, Visual Studio, and D365 Extension Framework.

• Enforce coding standards, performance optimization, upgrade‑safe practices, and Microsoft D365 best practices.

• Review technical designs, code artifacts, and deployment strategies to ensure quality and compliance.

Integration & Data Architecture

• Design and oversee integrations using:

  • OData and REST/SOAP APIs

  • DMF / AIF

  • Azure Logic Apps, Service Bus, Data Factory

  • Dual Write with CE applications

• Define integration, data migration, and security strategies across the CAT ecosystem and third‑party systems.

• Serve as the technical SPOC for data migration activities using DMF.

DevOps, Release & Environment Management

• Own Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and release management for D365 F&O.

• Oversee environment management across Dev, Test, UAT, and Production.

• Manage Lifecycle Services (LCS) and Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC) activities.

• Estimate development effort and monitor delivery against scope and cost.

People Management & Team Leadership

• Manage and mentor a team of D365 technical engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Provide technical coaching, performance feedback, and career development guidance.

• Allocate work effectively, manage capacity, and ensure consistent delivery across workstreams.

• Lead technical workshops, design reviews, and stakeholder discussions.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Drive reusable assets, frameworks, accelerators, and templates to standardize delivery.

• Promote automation and AI‑driven capabilities using Copilot Studio and AI Builder.

• Stay current with Microsoft D365 roadmap, Azure services, and ERP industry trends.

What You Will Have:

Software Development

• Deep hands‑on experience with Dynamics 365 F&O modules (Finance, Supply Chain, Project Operations), with a proven track record of leading large‑scale enterprise software projects.

• Expert‑level knowledge of X++ and .NET (C#), with strong understanding of D365 F&O layered architecture, Data Entities, and OData/REST APIs.

• Provides consulting on developer workbench tools and upgrade‑safe customizations.

Software Development Life Cycle

• Describes similarities and differences between life cycle for new product development vs. new release.

• Works with formal life cycle methodologies, agile practices, and performance tuning strategies.

• Interprets product development plans and functional documentation, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Software Integration Engineering

• Skilled in integration strategies between F&O, CE, third‑party apps, and legacy systems.

• Designs and implements data exchange interfaces using OData, APIs, and Azure services (Logic Apps, Service Bus, Data Factory).

• Experienced with Common Data Services (Dual Write) for integration with Dynamics 365 Sales, Field Service, and Project Operations.

• Describes tools and techniques for extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of electronic data.

Architecture & Delivery

• Deep understanding of enterprise solution architecture, design patterns, performance tuning, and security.

• Experience defining ALM, environment strategy, integration strategy, data migration, and security models.

• Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and release governance.

Leadership & Management

• Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring technical teams.

• Strong stakeholder communication and decision‑making skills.

• Ability to balance hands‑on technical work with people and delivery management.

DevOps & Release Management

• Expertise in Azure DevOps: Git, pipelines, CI/CD, release management, and test plans.

• Oversees Lifecycle Services (LCS) and Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC), managing code branches, build pipelines, and releases across Dev/UAT/Prod environments.

• Skilled in environment management, monitoring release dependencies, and ensuring compliance with Microsoft standards.

Data & AI Solutions

• Proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio and data migration tools (DMF).

• Ability to design and deliver AI‑powered ERP solutions using Copilot Studio and AI Builder.

• Extensive experience with data architecture, solution frameworks, and reusable accelerators.

• Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Stays current with Microsoft technologies, Azure microservices, and industry trends to inform strategic decisions.

Considerations For Top Candidates:

• Expert‑level experience with Dynamics 365 development F&O

• Expert‑level experience with Microsoft development stack X++

• Expert‑level experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD, and Azure microservices.

• Extensive experience with Microsoft Fabric.

• Extensive experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and SQL.

• Strong knowledge of integration strategies (OData, REST APIs, DMF, Dual Write).

• Working knowledge of Azure tenant and environment management.

• Experience collaborating with ISVs and IPs, and integrating CE with F&O using Common Data Services (Dual Write)

• Working knowledge of integration development.

• Prior leadership roles such as Technical Lead, Solution Architect, or Engineering Manager in large D365 programs.

Experience :

• 12–15+ years of demonstrated work experience in ERP technologies with 10+ years in Dynamics 365 F&O/AX in ERP/CRM technical development.

• Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Solution Architect in at least 8 full-cycle D365 F&O implementations.

Certifications (Preferred)

• MB 700: Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Solution Architect Expert

• MB 500: Finance & Operations Apps Developer

• PL 600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect
