What you will do:

  • Establish packaging and processing specifications for new product introductions, cost savings, or other supply chain improvements.
  • Communicate with existing facilities on packaging issues related to receiving, warehousing, and/or line side delivery. Perform cost analysis on current packaging processes and recommend changes where appropriate.
  • Perform activities to ensure batteries are protected, shipped, and delivered to the customer in a usable fashion and meet all 49 CFR and US DOT regulations.

Key duties can include:

  • Develop packaging solutions to protect battery strings and groups
  • Communicate with engineers and NPI leads for packaging requirements
  • Design for transport efficiency
  • Perform containerization analysis, testing, and quoting
  • Validate new packaging and test with suppliers
  • Coordinate with operations for storage and ergonomic considerations
  • Determine returnable packaging opportunities
  • Resolve safety and / or quality issues caused by current packaging
  • Resolve issues reported by customers and process partners
  • Develop, communicate and maintain supplier packaging requirements
  • Audit conformance to packaging specification
  • Joint Process Improvement with packaging vendors and purchasing
  • Create packaging concepts using 3D modeling software (i.e. Pro-E)


Degree Requirement
Degree or equivalent experience desired

What you will have:

Level Extensive Experience:
• Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.
• Demonstration of communication in a matrixed environment.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of lithium ion batteries. Ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. 49CFR preferred but not required.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
• Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Presents complex products and systems graphically.
• Performs manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers.
• Directs the matrix computations performed to transform objects in coordinate space.

Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Ensures that all employees and contractors comply with relevant safety policies and regulations.

Packaging: Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches and practices; ability to package products and components safely and attractively.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Evaluates different package materials and technologies and analyzes costs and benefits.
• Adjusts machines to conform to multiple changes in products or packing.
• Researches, pilots and implements intelligent packaging technologies.
• Coordinates complex tasks with different types of packaging, including non-traditional hybrid systems.
• Advises on packaging quality control and packaging/product interactions.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems : Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
• Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.

Additional Information

• This position is not open to relocation.
• Sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Travel required up to 10% (domestic only).

*This position is currently a hybrid in-office work model, requiring a 3-day weekly office presence onsite at our (location) office and remote work for the remaining days. However, work arrangements may be adjusted at any time based on business needs.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
