Job Title: Strategy Manager – Aftermarket

Salary: From £79,424 depending on experience

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

The Opportunity

IPSD Sales, Marketing, Servicing & Parts (SMSP) has an opening for a Strategy Manager to join the Perkins Aftermarket team. Reporting to the Aftermarket Director and serving as a key member of the Aftermarket leadership team, this high-profile role will lead the development and execution of the global aftermarket strategy for the Perkins brand. The position is instrumental in driving sustainable growth, delivering commercial excellence initiatives, and enhancing customer value across the Industrial Power Division.

Working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the business, the successful candidate will be responsible for translating strategic priorities into actionable plans, ensuring the successful delivery of critical projects that strengthen the Perkins brand, unlock new opportunities, and support long-term business objectives.

This role requires a highly adaptable and collaborative leader who can influence across multiple disciplines and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a team to ensure strategic co-ordination and alignment between projects

  • Globally accountable for the end-to-end improvement agenda for our multimillion-dollar Perkins Parts Business.

  • Leadership of our strategy deployment and measurement of our progress to meeting objectives, goals, and financial results.

  • Direct and indirect supervision and coaching of cross functional project leaders and ensure strategic co-ordination and alignment between projects

  • Management of the resource plan with strategic responsibility for its execution.

  • Management and cascade of the communication plan, including ownership of internal governance, employee communication and collaboration with support functions.

  • Sponsoring and leading complex projects to improve critical business processes that drive financial results and business improvement.

  • Prepare high quality presentation materials to communicate the strategy and its implementation to stakeholders at all levels of the organisations up to Exec Office, either in person or through others.

  • Prepare the agenda and lead the preparation of material for quarterly strategy reviews for the Perkins Aftermarket OIA.

Stakeholder Management: Knowledge of stakeholder management techniques; ability to systematically identify stakeholders, analyze their needs and expectations, and implement various tasks to engage with them.

  • Uses an appropriate range of technology mediums to communicate effectively with stakeholders in formal and informal situations.

  • Provides assistance to colleagues promoting a culture of inclusion, collaboration, ethics and compliance.

  • Applies empathy and cultural sensitivity with diverse stakeholders.

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational, tactical and strategic planning in support of the overall business plan.

  • Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.

  • Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental-level plans.

  • Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.​

  • Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.

  • Demonstrates both empathy and assertiveness when communicating a need or defending a position.

  • Communicates well downward, upward, and outward.

Top Candidates will:

  • Have leadership experience.

  • Experience developing and executing global aftermarket, commercial or growth strategies.

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen

  • Proven success leading business transformation, strategic improvement or change management initiatives.

  • Experience within industrial, engineering, manufacturing, power systems or equipment-related sectors.

  • Advanced analytical capability, using data and customer insights to support strategic decision-making.
