Key Responsibilities
1. Sourcing Strategy & Supplier Matrix
- Develop and maintain the supplier sourcing matrix for generator and attachment components.
- Define and execute regional/global sourcing strategies aligned with business and category needs.
- Identify and qualify new suppliers to ensure a competitive, resilient supply base.
2. Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
- Serve as the primary commercial interface between Caterpillar and suppliers.
- Lead Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and drive continuous improvement in QCLDM metrics.
- Monitor and improve supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and cost competitiveness.
3. Commercial & Contract Management
- Lead price negotiations and deliver sustainable cost reductions (TCA-focused).
- Negotiate and implement supplier agreements, contracts, and commercial terms.
- Ensure contract compliance and manage commercial risk effectively.
4. Category & Cost Management
- Execute category strategies and manage cost/spend optimization initiatives.
- Drive cost reduction programs, including should-cost analysis and value engineering.
- Support long-term cost competitiveness for generator and attachment product lines.
5. Supplier Development & Collaboration
- Partner with Supplier Development Engineers (SDEs) to improve supplier capability and performance.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities with early supplier involvement and rapid execution.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.
6. Risk & Capacity Management
- Proactively manage supplier risk, including capacity constraints and financial health.
- Ensure business continuity through dual sourcing, localization, and contingency planning.
7. Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead or participate in strategic sourcing and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, lead time, and inventory optimization.
- Mentor and support team members where applicable, promoting professionalism and ethical standards.
Key Capabilities & Competencies
Technical & Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of generator components (e.g., alternators, engines, control systems, power electronics) and attachments (mechanical structures, hydraulic systems, fabricated parts).
- Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, electrical assembly, and system integration.
- Experience in strategic sourcing, supplier selection, and cost modeling (should-cost).
Commercial & Negotiation Skills
- Proven ability to lead complex supplier negotiations and achieve cost targets.
- Strong understanding of contract terms, pricing structures, and cost drivers.
Supply Chain & QCLDM Expertise
- Deep understanding of QCLDM principles and performance management.
- Experience in supplier development, quality improvement, and logistics optimization.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Strong analytical capability with proficiency in data-driven decision making.
- Ability to evaluate supplier cost structures, risks, and performance trends.
Communication
- Effective communicator in both written and verbal English (additional languages a plus).
- Ability to influence stakeholders and align cross-functional priorities.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–8+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, manufacturing, or engineering.
- Proven experience in generator, power systems, or heavy equipment components sourcing preferred.
- Experience in China supply base management and localization strategies is highly desirable.
- Professional certifications (e.g., C.P.M., CPIM, or equivalent) are a plus.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
Travel
- This role requires frequent travel within China and occasionally globally to support supplier development and business needs.
