Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Digital Product Owner to join Informatics &Connected Worksite -CAT IT Division

The Digital Product Owner works as a member of a Scrum Team to help maximize the value of the product and the work with scrum development team and product team to identify product opportunities, functional requirements, and business processes. The incumbent would be responsible for acting as Product Owner for medium complex projects with high value to the organization.

The preference for this role is to be based out of Chennai - Brigade World Trade Center & Bangalore – Caterpillar PSN office.

What you will do

The Product Owner works intimately with the Scrum Master and the Development Team with the primary task of creating and managing the Product Backlog and to ensure everyone knows the priorities.

  • Responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the development team.
  • Responsible for acting as Product Owner for medium complex projects with high value to the organization.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and prioritizing the Product Backlog according to business value for the life of the project.
  • Communicate Product Backlog priorities to the team.
  • Act as the key decision-maker regarding what features the product will have.
  • Responsible for the vision of what is to be built and conveying that vision to the team.
  • Assists with the elaboration of epics, themes, and features into user stories that are small enough, or granular enough, to be achieved in a single sprint.
  • Responsible for conveying the vision and goals at the beginning of every sprint.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for making decisions on release dates and content.
  • Represent the customer, interfacing and engaging with the customer.
  • Participate in daily scrum, and follow-up on team progress towards sprint goal and help resolving blockers.
  • Willing to take scrum master responsibilities to one of the agile development team.
  • Lead and participate agile ceremonies like sprint planning, requirements grooming, backlog refinements call, retrospectives, review, and demo meetings.
  • Inspect the product progress at the end of every Sprint and accept or reject the work that has been done by the Development Team
  • Act as the voice of the agile development teams, communicating status externally.
  • Be a good role model of Scrum values; understand the framework and the roles of each team member.
  • Be a champion for the agile community and help to further the community within the organization.
  • Responsible for product delivery from inception till release to production, closely working with development teams to stick with committed timeline.
  • Work closely with product team to share daily status and release progress. Be transparent about release timeline changes or blockers if any.
  • Work closely with QA team to ensure product quality is intact.
  • Work closely with support team to monitor incoming support requests and plan releases as needed.

Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

What you will have

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree preferably in computer science, information systems, marketing, communications, engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience working as a BA .
  • 3+ years of experience with the Agile methodology
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately to ensure a team’s success.
  • Strong accountability planning/organization, and teamwork.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to handle both executive-level discussions as well as functional / technical deep dives.
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in faced paced environment and influence product, engineering, sales variance, and external teams distributed across world (APD, EAME, ADSM).
  • Ability to motivate and inspire your scrum team to do its best work.
  • Proven ability to motivate, lead, and collaborate with cross-functional product development teams and manage interactions across product areas.
  • This position requires candidate to work a 5-day -a -week schedule in the office.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Product Owner certification (CSPO from Scrum Alliance).
  • Domain expertise in business applications.
  • Experience managing projects using agile software tools such as DevOps, Mingle, VSTS, JIRA, Team Services, Rally.
  • Experience working with onshore/offshore team model.
  • Demonstrated ability to empower teams.
  • Strong accountability, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
  • Intermediate level skill with SQL.
  • Good knowledge of Caterpillar policies, standards, procedures, and a broad understanding of Caterpillar’s organization

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Software Change Request Management: Knowledge of software change request management; ability to manage software product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.

• Describes methods for estimating costs for request fulfillment.
• Defines responses for non-standard or unsupported change requests.
• Contributes to the design and development of request process flow and templates.
• Clarifies description, components affected, need, cost estimate, risk, resources, status.
• Manages all aspects of the change request process.
• Researches new tools and techniques for monitoring product efficacy.

Software Engineering: Knowledge of software engineering; ability to deliver new or enhanced fee-based software products.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Identifies considerations for product integration with multiple platforms and systems.
• Works with development or delivery of a software package or component.
• Describes phases, activities, deliverables and processes for a specific methodology.
• Works with structured documents for developing features, functions, plans and schedules.
• Describes software design practices, technologies, and considerations.

Software Problem Management: Knowledge of strategies, practices and tools for resolving software problems; ability to manage software problems in installed software products.

• Compares and contrasts features and benefits of major acceptance testing frameworks.
• Critiques user acceptance plans for appropriateness and completeness.
• Develops approaches for acceptance testing following legal or contractual agreements.
• Monitors end-users in defining the testing environment and acceptance criteria; explains the importance of being actively involved in test designs and other testing phases.
• Applies user acceptance testing in typical software development scenarios.
• Consults on test strategies, components, processes, plans and approaches during the user acceptance testing process.
