About the role:

Caterpillar products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, onboard models, and control algorithms in real time, providing insights into machine usage and operations. As part of Caterpillar’s digital strategy, the MineStar product suite enables real-time guidance, monitoring, tracking, and control of mining operations.

MineStar integrates with mining and enterprise systems, supporting Caterpillar’s Mining Technology Enabled Solutions vision.

We are seeking a Junior DevOps Engineer to join our operations team. This role focuses on supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and delivery efficiency. You will work under guidance from senior engineers while building your skills across the DevOps toolchain and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll do:

• Assist in building and maintaining automation across build, test, deployment, and infrastructure workflows.

• Support Agile teams in adopting DevOps practices and improving delivery efficiency.

• Collaborate with developers and QA engineers to maintain CI/CD pipelines and environments.

• Contribute to the implementation and troubleshooting of CI/CD pipelines.

• Assist in identifying and resolving issues in deployment and automation processes.

• Participate in root cause analysis for incidents and support implementation of fixes.

• Work with cross-functional teams to understand dependencies and support coordinated delivery efforts.

• Follow and contribute to established DevOps standards, best practices, and reusable templates.

• Maintain documentation including runbooks, procedures, and automation designs in Confluence and Azure DevOps.

• Continuously learn new tools, technologies, and DevOps practices with support from senior team members.

What you’ll bring:

• 1–3 years of experience (or equivalent internship/project experience) in DevOps, software engineering, or IT operations.

• Basic understanding of scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).

• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts (e.g., Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation).

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.

• Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).

• Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes (preferred but not required).

• Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile practices.

• Basic knowledge of databases such as SQL Server or Postgres (preferred).

• Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn and take feedback.

• Good communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

• Entry-level or associate-level cloud certifications (e.g., Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner).

• Academic or project experience with microservices-based applications.

• Awareness of DevOps, security, and compliance practices (e.g., secure pipelines, basic ISO concepts).
