Law, Security & Public Policy (LSPP) has an opening for a Senior Strategy Manager – Trade Compliance. The selected candidate will lead a team that provides strategic support and execution on international trade and global compliance matters across the enterprise.

This is a rare opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to step into a key role shaping the future of compliance at Caterpillar. You’ll advise on strategy and work alongside compliance and business leaders to solve complex, real-world challenges—all within a collaborative environment including high-performing trade, compliance, and legal teams.

This role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer who is based in Irving, Texas.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with the Trade, Legal and Compliance teams to provide strategic and operational support for global trade and risk management at Caterpillar
  • Proactively monitor, manage and mitigate risks through internal and external engagement with stakeholders and partners and assist with development and implementation of compliance strategies and goals in line with company's business objectives
  • Analyze trade and compliance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, including for data analytics and data science initiatives that support informed decision-making and stronger compliance outcomes
  • Design, implement, and refine processes and procedures to improve efficiency, scalability, and consistency and support cross-functional strategic projects with business partners across the organization to accelerate trade and compliance initiatives
  • Effectively communicate insights, progress, and recommendations across the organization as needed, including to senior leadership

What You Will Bring:

  • Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization, including synthesizing complex concepts and providing insights to project teams and senior leaders
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations
  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship and stakeholder management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with various stakeholders including senior leaders, peers within LSPP and across Caterpillar, including logistics and procurement organizations
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and technique and ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally, across levels and various business functions, and with external parties

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Significant experience with strategy development and complex project execution
  • Demonstrated senior leadership support, advocacy, and acumen with strong intellectual curiosity
  • Experience in leadership gained through previous supervisory assignments
  • Exposure to global trade issues and/or development of compliance processes is a plus

  • The primary locations for this role are Irving, Texas, or Peoria, Illinois

Summary Pay Range:

$189,080.00 - $283,630.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
