LPSD currently has an opening for a  LEAN 6 Sigma Blackbelt position located at our Lafayette, IN facility. In this role, you will lead projects using LEAN tools and methodologies. Coach, teach, and develop others to use the tools and methodologies. Tap into unused employee creativity. Eliminate waste in every process and drive the organization towards standard work.

What you will do: 

  • Black Belts will train and lead Value Stream Transformation (VST) teams and 6 Sigma Rapid Improvement Workshops (RIW).
  • Implement data analytics solutions to utilize manufacturing data to solve complex manufacturing challenges and drive action based on data insights.
  • Ability to define and execute projects to collect, display, and analyze production data.
  • Measure results of their projects at the cell and Value Stream levels. Provide management team with the results and take corrective actions as required to improve on results below target.
  • Integrate Continuous Improvement ideas as part of the process and drive their teams towards standard work. Ensure projects are integrated with other business activities, improvement projects, and the business strategy.
  • This position has significant impact on the success of the Caterpillar Production System. Six Sigma and Digital initiatives will help make Caterpillar a safer place to work, improve the company’s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce cost and increase profits.
  • Must be a results oriented change agent who is proficient in the use of LEAN tools and methodologies. Must be willing and able to effectively coach, teach and develop.
  • Develop process improvement tools and metrics to drive PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT cycles in manufacturing processes

Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Operations, Engineering, Technology preferred

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Good communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Project management skills, team leadership skills
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles
  • Previous operations, manufacturing, or supply chain experience
  • Previous 6 Sigma project experience – Black Belt, Green Belt, etc.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Technology based skillset suited to understanding and working with data analytics solutions
  • Good business acumen
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience managing project-based activities of suppliers/vendors
  • Capacity to learn and apply new, complex systems and technologies
  • Demonstrated use of technology to analyze data and solve problems
  • Job-related experience managing long-term projects (Examples: capital asset procurement, product development, 6 Sigma projects, process development, or other)
  • Product or process validation experience

Six Sigma Methodology: Working Knowledge of the concepts of six sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology; ability to use the methodology to improve the manufacturing processes and control the improvements by eliminating root causes.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
