Our  Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD)  is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). 

As the Manufacturing Project Engineer you will be responsible for providing both remote and onsite leadership and support to Caterpillar’s supply base in the execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), the assurance of process control, collaboration in process improvement initiatives, and investigation and resolution of quality issues.

What You Will Do:

  • Driving design for manufacturing collaboration with engineering and our manufacturing base.
  • Project management to drive timely completion of development activities.
  • Ensuring robust process controls are in place to prevent nonconformities.
  • Monitoring of key manufacturing processes and quality management system for improvement opportunities.
  • Assisting with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities to ensure production readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Driving APQP excellence within the manufacturing base through best practices, tools/templates, and direction collaboration and training.
  • Providing product and process technical support during start-up activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to ensure seamless integration of automation improvements and updated manufacturing process flows.
  • Evaluating new manufacturers and process enhancements or expansions; validating process capability.
  • Leading investigation and resolution of product quality issues; conducting the review, approval and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Problem Solving:   Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Project Management:   Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
    • Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.
    • Under guidance, plans and estimates simple projects.
    • Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.
    • Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.
    • Produces standard project status reports.
  • Manufacturing Best Practices & Standards:   Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities.
    • Analyzes the feasibility of applying best practices within a manufacturing facility.
    • Describes common problems and implementation issues with applying best practices.
    • Explains the process of creation, dissemination, and maintenance of best practice documentation.
    • Reviews and assesses proposed criteria for identifying best practices.
    • Works with existing best practices within own's area of responsibility.
  • Manufacturing Process Design and Development:   Knowledge of how to develop or design a manufacturing process; ability to establish and determine which processes and parameters should be opted to improve functionality and costs.
    • Describes various types of manufacturing processes and steps to design each one of them.
    • Draws flowcharts and diagrams to represent the process design.
    • Follows manufacturing policies and guidelines when designing a process.
    • Outlines operational and safety issues while implementing a development process.
    • Research new ways and approaches that can help enhance process design activities.
  • Change Control:   Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively.
    • Assesses errors that occur during change execution and takes action in correcting these errors.
    • Conducts impact analyses to determine the effect change might have on the status of current production environment.
    • Implements routine changes to the production environment; documents the changes made.
    • Follows the established change control process to ensure the performance of emergency repair and maintenance.
    • Prevents unauthorized or unintended deviations in compliance with that of change control policies.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering (Metallurgical/Materials, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical).
  • Knowledge and experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes and tools.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Caterpillar print reading, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of shop operations, particularly Machining, Finishing, Inspection, Paint, Packaging.
  • Ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools; 6 Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt experience preferred.
  • Experience in a project management role with a focus on automation systems in a manufacturing environment.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
