Our work spans diesel, hybrid, and fully electric power systems, integrating digital technologies to improve performance, efficiency, emissions, and connectivity.
Based in Peterborough, this role sits within the Battery Management System (BMS) software development team and is responsible for leading the development and global direction of our Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) test capabilities for BMS software. With HiL benches deployed across three continents, you will help define strategy, drive consistency, and maximise the effectiveness of HiL testing across the organisation.
The role includes a combination of technical leadership, hands-on development and execution, and collaboration with various teams across Caterpillar. Your work will ensure the delivery of high-quality BMS software to our internal and external customers.

What You Will Do
As a Senior Engineer in the Battery Management System (BMS) Software team you will:
Plan and co-ordinate the execution of HiL verification testing for the latest BMS software utilising state‑of‑the‑art HiL test benches.
Review software changes and define test requirements, selecting appropriate verification methods (HiL, SiL, on‑pack).
Own and continuously improve local HiL hardware capability, including supplier engagement and issue resolution.
Support the development of HiL plant models for a growing range of CAT battery system architectures.
Collaborate as part of the global BMS verification test team to improve HiL utilisation across multiple hardware generations.
Define, track, and communicate test coverage metrics for each BMS software release.
What You Have:
Requirements Analysis: Ability to interpret customer requirements and software changes to define effective and robust test strategies.
Communication: Strong communication skills, with a clear and structured approach.
Quality Focus: Customer-focused mindset with a strong commitment to quality.
Analytical Thinking: Proven analytical and problem-solving capability, with an ability to break down complex problems, identify root cause and coordinate the implementation of effective solutions.
Technical Troubleshooting: Strong technical troubleshooting skills across hardware and software, including analysis of code, logs, or system behaviour.
Product Testing: Experience in product testing, with the ability to design, plan, and execute test strategies, develop test procedures, and analyse results and defects.
Other Desirable Skills/Experience:
Experience in model-based controls development or testing within embedded software environments.
Understanding of electrification systems (e.g. batteries, motors, inverters, power electronics)
Experience with Caterpillar control software processes and tools.
Hands-on experience with HiL test equipment and automated test development.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git).
What You Will Get
This is an exciting opportunity to develop strong technical expertise in Battery Management System (BMS) software testing within Caterpillar, while also setting the direction of HiL testing globally. This role offers the chance to work with a diverse, global team to deliver robust, fully verified BMS software for next‑generation battery systems across Caterpillar’s product portfolio.
