Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

  • Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall technical solution design, requirement decomposition, and architecture construction for the main power battery pack BMS. Develop the system development scheme based on cell characteristics, battery pack structure, and vehicle electrical specifications; take charge of MCU and AFE chip selection, system function definition, and performance index calibration, output complete system requirement specifications and overall design schemes, and coordinate the implementation of BMS hardware and software development to ensure the solution is implementable, mass-producible, and highly safe.
  • Independently develop and debug BMS low-level drivers, logic control, protection strategies, and communication protocols; be proficient in the implementation and optimization of core algorithms such as SOC, SOH, SOP, equalization control, thermal management, and fault diagnosis; complete code writing, porting, self-testing, and version iteration based on embedded development platforms, resolve various bugs and technical difficulties in the software development process, and ensure stable operation of BMS software.
  • Coordinate BMS bench testing, HIL simulation testing, vehicle integration and commissioning, high/low temperature, durability, EMC and other verification work; lead DV/PV testing, trial assembly, small-batch trial production, and mass production introduction; quickly locate and resolve BMS hardware and software issues encountered in R&D, testing, mass production, and at the client side, form problem reviews, optimization solutions, and technical沉淀, and establish a long-term quality control mechanism.
  • As the core technical interface, independently communicate with vehicle customers, cell suppliers, and component suppliers; accurately interpret customer technical specifications, project requirements, and customization needs, and timely synchronize R&D progress, technical solutions, and problem rectification status; efficiently coordinate supplier development, sample delivery, technical adaptation, and problem rectification, resolve technical discrepancies between the two parties, and ensure efficient project progress.
  • Participate in all-stage technical reviews including project initiation, scheme review, and mass production review; break down project tasks, formulate development plans, and control R&D milestones; comply with industry standards such as ISO26262 and IEC60204, complete FMEA, functional safety design, and compliance self-inspection; be responsible for standardized output of technical documents, patent mining, technical accumulation, and team technical capacity building.
  • Track cutting-edge BMS technologies in the industry; continuously optimize BMS system architecture, software algorithms, and control strategies based on product iteration, market demand, and mass production issues to improve battery pack safety, range estimation accuracy, charge/discharge efficiency, and product reliability; promote the layout of technical innovation patents, and complete technical document writing and intellectual property declaration.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Automation, Electronic Information, Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 6 years of R&D experience in power battery BMS, with complete work experience as both a BMS System Engineer and a BMS Software Engineer. Have fully participated in at least 2 mass-production projects of new energy power battery pack BMS, and be familiar with the BMS development process for battery packs.
  • Proficient in the working principles of power batteries, the electrical architecture of battery packs, and the design logic of BMS systems; familiar with the V-model development process for BMS, and proficient in the full process of requirement analysis, scheme design, system integration, and test verification; familiar with the complete set of protection mechanisms (overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, overtemperature, short circuit, etc.) and thermal management system design for batteries.
  • Proficient in embedded software development using C/C++, familiar with mainstream MCU architectures such as ARM/STM32; proficient in CAN/LIN bus communication and low-level driver development for UART/SPI/I2C interfaces; proficient in core algorithms such as SOC/SOH estimation, active/passive equalization, fault diagnosis, and power limitation; proficient in using development and debugging tools such as CANoe, oscilloscopes, and simulators, with independent software troubleshooting and algorithm optimization capabilities.
  • Familiar with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262/ISO 13849, automotive electrical specifications, and national/enterprise standards in the battery industry. Experience in BMS functional safety design, risk analysis, and compliance development is preferred.
  • Possess strong cross-departmental collaboration and external communication skills, capable of efficiently interfacing with customers and suppliers, accurately conveying technical requirements, resolving technical disputes, and driving project delivery; with clear logical thinking, strong stress resistance, and the ability to independently tackle technical challenges, conduct problem reviews, and coordinate projects, demonstrating comprehensive technical literacy.
  • Candidates with comprehensive BMS R&D experience at OEMs or leading power battery companies, overseas project interface experience, and hands-on experience in functional safety certification implementation are preferred.
