Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products (BCP) division is hiring a Sales Support Specialist in Cary, NC. If you enjoy leveraging sales insights for business solutions, this is a great role for you!  

Role Summary: This role will conduct needs analysis to help identify potential sales opportunities and provide excellent customer service to our internal teams and external dealer network.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver competitive market analysis, including competitive new product introductions & positioning, tracking trends in design, performance and capability improvements. 

  • Represent and pursue improvement on issues related to the overall commercial performance in a North American territory including overall PINS trends, demand fluctuations and basic customer requirements for both Dealer Retail and Rental Services.  

  • Lead strategy and execution of volume growth with key Corporate and National Accounts, local and regional Governmental agencies, as well as entities within the Defense & Federal Products Division

  • Document and report customer ideas, preferences, jobsite and/or corporate requirements, and ensuring classification in the product improvement/update process.

  • Participate in key industry trade shows, trade associations, and trade association events. 

  • Support product and application training events for industry field team, dealer sales and rental reps, as well as key corporate and national account customer sales support events. 

What You Have  (Core Skills)

  • Customer Focus and Relationship Management: Good networking skills with ability to establish and maintain strong rapport with Cat & dealer sales teams to foster long-term business partnerships. Passion for addressing “customer” inquiries, resolving issues, and providing ongoing support. 

  • Effective Communication and Presentation: Passionate about selling, delivering persuasive presentations to dealer sales & rental rep teams, as well as to customers at bespoke demo events, utilizing above average communication and interpersonal skills

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Uses strong data analysis skills to evaluate current dealer market performance, identify areas of low performance, potential industry/applications and customer targets within territory. 

  • Value Selling: Excellent negotiation and persuasive skills for the purposes of unit fleet growth and PINS growth targets, pricing analysis, addressing bespoke merchandising requirements, as well as to reach mutually beneficial agreements with Cat dealers, effectively converting dealer growth opportunities by addressing concerns and securing commitments. 

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Product and application expertise and experience with product demonstrations: the ability to present and explain product features and benefits to potential customers in a way that stands out over competing brands often through detailed demonstrations. 

  • Sales pipeline analysis and account management experience: maintains a healthy pipeline of potential clients by developing, tracking progress and prioritizing opportunities. Managing existing customer accounts. 

  • Sales reporting skills: excellent organization in tracking sales performance metrics, maintaining written documentation, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement, generating reports regarding sales growth progress.

  • Industry Knowledge: Stays updated on industry trends, competitor analysis, and market dynamics to inform sales strategies. Basic understanding of construction equipment and/or OEM dealer organization.   

  • Data analysis skills: Ability to consolidate various data inputs, uncover/identify trends and market realities. Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
