Salary/Grade: £55,516.00 – £61,516.00 depending on experience
Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, UK

Job Summary
The Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) Simulation team is part of the engineering team at IPSD-M (Industrial Power Systems Division – Medium Engines). The CAE Simulation team is comprised of Thermofluids (CFD), Structural (FEA) and Software teams. It is responsible for supporting the design, performance and mechanical development of advanced powertrains for Caterpillar and driving the technical direction in the early stages of new products and new technologies through the use of simulation tools and methodologies, as well as the virtual validation of these early concepts.
We are seeking a Senior Thermofluids Combustion Engineer to join the team to develop CI & SI combustion systems utilizing simulation processes to help influence and enhance Caterpillar products of the future.
Additional Info
This position is currently a hybrid in-office work model, requiring 3-day weekly office presence onsite at our Peterborough office with remote work for the remaining days. However, work arrangements may be adjusted at any time based on business needs.
What You Will Do
-
Development of CI & SI combustion systems using simulation processes
-
Investigate and resolve engineering problems on SI and CI combustion engines using 1D & 3D fluids simulation tools

Accountable for delivering timely, high-quality simulation and analysis results as well as providing clear verbal and written recommendations to stakeholders and customers

Close cooperation with US simulation team to align on combustion processes
-
Optimisation and automation of products and processes to increase simulation efficiency
-
Collaboration with the team to share, learn and develop yours and the team’s knowledge
-
Keep up-to-date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques
What You Have
Required qualifications:
-
Accredited Bachelors/Masters degree in a relevant Engineering subject
-
Working knowledge of Compression Ignition (CI), Spark Ignition (SI) engines and alternative fuels
Simulation experience: Knowledge of 1D & 3D thermofluids simulation methodologies; ability to use 1D & 3D tools Level Working Knowledge:
o Experience of using 1D tools (e.g. GT-Suite)
o Experience of using 3D tools (e.g. Converge, STAR-CCM+, STAR-CD)
o Follows and develops team standards, policies and processes
o Regularly peer reviews work with others to share learning and develop robust solutions
o Uses research techniques to identify solutions to problems autonomously
o Coaching and technical leadership to junior members of the team
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Working Knowledge:
