Job Description:

As a Product Owner for multiple Marketing Content products, you will play a key role driving day-to-day operational excellence and enablement of digital products used by Caterpillar’s marketers on a daily basis. The Marketing Content product team is at the beginning stages of building a new strategy for Caterpillar’s content ecosystem and this role provides an opportunity to be a part of this crucial, global digital initiative at the ground floor. You will work with multiple business groups to understand their pain points and ideas for enhancement, then turn these insights into action by partnering with the Digital Strategist and Digital Program Manager to influence product roadmaps and own the intake process, backlogs and support delivery by partner on the Application Engineering team. Products include product information management (PIM), digital asset management (DAM), content management systems (CMS) and others. The new addition to our team will need to have experience prioritizing and influencing key product decisions and a proven track record of planning the work, then working the plan.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience with marketing content products, whether as a regular user or a product manager/business analyst, as well as the ability and experience to demonstrate how they have created greater efficiency using their expertise. The role requires the ability to influence peers as well as constant, proactive communication across multiple teams while using language that is understood by all audiences (ie the right balance of technical and functional verbiage.

Job duties/responsibilities include but not limited to:

Product Strategy & Roadmaps:

  • Working closely with business owners, key stakeholders and internal partners throughout the organization to gather business requirements

  • Defining scope and benefits of products and enhancements a\nd collecting business feedback in order to build strong requirements

  • Developing, maintaining and executing against product roadmaps

  • Managing, prioritizing, and assessing the impact of all work items, such as new features, defects, including providing the decision to create, fix or defer at the project level

  • Conveying the desired vision and user experience to the development team & business partners

Integrated Product Leader:

  • Acting as the key product feature decision-maker, maximizing the value of the product, with support from Digital Strategy Lead and Digital Program Manager

  • Serving as the liaison between product and development teams

  • Maintaining and prioritizing the product backlog according to business value for the life of the project

  • Ensuring delivered stories meet business requirements and suitable for integration and validation

  • Prioritizing and communicating of product backlog priorities

  • Assisting with the elaboration of epics, themes and features into user stories that are small enough, or granular enough, to be achieved in a single sprint

  • Deciding on release dates and content

  • Participating in sprint planning meetings, reveals and retrospectives - inspecting the product progress at the end of every sprint to accept or reject the work that has been done by the development team

  • Partnering with the business to ensure end user acceptance testing (UAT)

  • Developing release communications and training materials

  • Monitoring an initiative post launch to ensure benefit realization

  • Management of support process and structure – process setup and execution monitoring – and making support related business decisions

Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by the leader from time to time.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years increasingly complex professional experience

  • 3+ years experience as a product owner/manager, product marketer who utilizes marketing content or product content systems regularly, lead business analyst, or senior project/program manager in a digital environment

  • Experience working with marketing teams, and an understanding of how the combination of marketing strategy and the appropriate technology drives prime product sales to end users

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of an organization with excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong accountability, planning/organization, and teamwork

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations

Top candidates will also have (but not required):

  • Proven experience working within the Agile methodology

  • Understanding of the current state of Caterpillar’s marketing content ecosystem

  • Project/program management experience

  • Product Owner certifications

  • Experience managing projects using Agile software tools such as DevOps/VSTS, JIRA, Team Services, Rally, etc

Candidates with locations aligned to a Cat office in the Eastern or Central time zone will be strongly preferred. Relocation is available for the right candidate.

Summary Pay Range:

$104,112.00 - $156,168.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
