As an Environmental/Health/Safety(EHS) intern, you will have the opportunity to work on and provide leadership in environmental and/or safety projects which are completed by the end of the summer and add direct value to the facility and to your experience as a future EHS professional. Your internship will culminate in a presentation of your work to EHS leaders across the company.

  • Example: Safety project that will include, working with the CI Safety Steering Team to gather incident data, developing a program, training, etc., developing an execution plan, and delivering the results to the leadership team.
  • Environmental project will include researching best environmental practice for the Sanford facility and developing a plan to implement.

Session Availability

Summer 2023: 5/15/2023 - 8/04/2023

This is a 40-hour-per-week assignment, Monday through Friday, lasting 12 weeks in the summer

Onsite Location

  • One intern in Clayton, NC
  • One intern in Sanford, NC

Job Duties/Responsibilities will be assigned according to your qualifications and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily administration duties to include but not limited to; responding to emails, data entry, tracking and analyzing data and updating the safety intranet site
  • Assist with ad hoc request and projects as needed
  • Assist in the approval of new product safety data sheets
  • Trend analysis of global environmental or safety data in line with our Sustainability Goals
  • Safety and environmental culture initiatives
  • Development of proactive EHS programs
  • Delivery of EHS learning
  • Shop floor interactions with employees
  • Industrial hygiene sampling

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled full time at a 4-year accredited university/college in one of the following degree programs: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources, Industrial Hygiene
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 (no rounding)
  • Expected graduation date December 2023 and beyond
  • 12 completed semester hours at a 4-year university prior to start of internship or currently participating in a Caterpillar student program and will be attending a 4-year university beginning Fall 2022

Top Candidates will also have

  • Demonstrated leadership that requires organizing or working with groups
  • Past experience in project work
  • Relevant internship or work experience in functional field
  • Ability to work independently at times
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; PowerPoint, Word and Excel skills well-developed
  • Ability to effectively articulate and summarize analytical data for leadership
