This role leads a team of engineers developing, validating, and supporting sensors for application on Cat engines and machines.
Leads all aspects of the product line, including designs from research, concept, production to end of life, including cost, quality, and delivery.
This job opening is for a sensor development engineering project lead within the Caterpillar ICS Electrical Components division. The candidate will lead a team responsible for worldwide sensor design control at Cat. The incumbent will work on critical new technology development for sensing components supporting Caterpillar machines and engines. This leader will also support existing production sensors for machines and engines meeting requirements for supply, reliability, and cost. These components are primarily purchased finished and utilize a wide range of product & process technologies. The incumbent will be responsible for a family or sub-family of products and will manage product line strategy, technology future plan, all new application requests. Additionally, the incumbent will manage development of new products by leveraging Caterpillar’s development process for specification, sourcing, design & process verification, and production launch. The position will require collaboration with a global supply base, purchasing, product support, parts marketing, electronic system & sub-system teams, machine and engine product groups. The incumbent will assist with the development and execution of product, sourcing, and life cycle management strategies. Specific job activities include requirements new technology introduction and new product development, supplier selection, project management, test planning/execution, stakeholder review delivery, and project leadership of continuous improvement projects.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Electrical or Mechanical Engineering program.
* Minimum 6 years’ experience with electrical or mechanical component and/or system development within the last 10 years
* Excellent communication, teamwork, project management, and analytical skills are required to collaborate with customers, suppliers, product support, purchasing, systems engineering, and purchasing
Top Candidates will also have
* Past NPI/NTI/CPI experience with Caterpillar machine or engine products & systems engineering development, test and validation, supplier development
* Past engineering team lead experience
* 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification
* Experience with electronic component lab testing, J1939 CAN protocol, sensor data acquisition / analysis, EMC test procedures & specifications
* Electrical component failure analysis
* Knowledge of L1/L2 component NPI, APQP, quality and reliability tools, Caterpillar EC tests
The location for this position is Peoria, IL
