Job Description:

Within Caterpillar, the Construction Industries Services Division’s (CISD) mission is to build the services development, marketing and sales execution capabilities needed to develop customer-focused strategies that accelerate services growth. We aim to make Caterpillar, Cat dealers and CI Customers SERVICES STRONG.  We are hiring a Sr. Strategic Communications Consultant to develop, manage and execute strategic messaging and communications. 

This position will work closely with the Vice President, Lead HR Manager, BR Manager and the Sales Execution, Services Development & Marketing department heads to develop and design division and enterprise-level communication strategies and deliverables that support services growth objectives across Construction Industries and with dealers. Key initiatives include CI Services strategy, CI Services Growth Plans and Enterprise Workstreams.

This position works to ensure clear, consistent and effective content is shared with internal and external audiences. Internal audiences include, but are not limited to, the Caterpillar Executive Office, internal business partner leadership, Cat dealers and Caterpillar employees.

In addition, this position directly impacts the CISD key strategic areas of focus by educating, informing, and energizing leaders and employees to understand how their day-to-day efforts impact services growth through of the organizations they support.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure development, production, measurement and alignment of internal and external communication materials to achieve department, division and enterprise objectives.

  • Responsible for deliverables that include, but are not limited to, speeches, video scripts, presentations (Board of Directors, Executive Office Reviews / Deep Dives, VP presentations and external speaking events), all-employee meetings and leadership impact events. 

  • Develop and maintain Division's identity program, integrating key messages and visual identifiers and ensure consistency with corporate brand.

  • Work directly with the CISD Marcomm team as well as in-house and outside designers to develop and produce communications. Determine budget and manage costs for projects. 

  • Manage local media relations where necessary and serve as a liaison with Corporate Public Affairs and Legal.

  • Limited travel required (between 5-15% of working time).

Basic Qualifications:

  • College or university degree in marketing, communications or related field or equivalent years of professional experience

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible marketing and/or communication job-related experience

  • Graphic design experience including Adobe Creative Suite and expertise with Microsoft

  • Proven track record supporting director and / or executive levels

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including being detail oriented and organized

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry (machine, parts and services)

  • Examples of visual storytelling and design thinking

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, strong writing skills and experience are required to develop a collaborative working relationships with others inside and outside of the division

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or influence others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.

This position can be located in Chicago or Peoria, IL.
