JOB DUTIES: Manage the transportation operations associated within a region or country and the associated Caterpillar plants. Accountable for day to day results of managing the operations to meet the agreed upon KPI (key performance indicators) to ensure process effectiveness. To develop, implement and manage strategy and processes for transportation customers. Investigate and recommend transportation solutions to complex supply network issues. Lower and/or manage transportation costs while meeting delivery expectations of our customers. Collaborate the procurement category to help manage freight partners to meet on time delivery performance and drive process improvements.

Manages personnel located in multiple locations throughout North America and South America (or EAME, or Asia Pacific, depending upon the assigned region). Manages transportation and transportation related supply chain processes for the Cat Service Parts Distribution Center Network and Caterpillar manufacturing plants. Responsible for the expediting processes and procedures for all inbound shipments as well as transportation planning for outbound shipments.
Manage personnel located in multiple locations including the US, Brazil and Panama.
Manage transportation and transportation related supply network processes including but not limited to the Cat Distribution Center Network, USOD manufacturing plants, BCP manufacturing plants and Remanufacturing Business. Responsible for the parts expediting process and procedures for all inbound shipments as well as transportation planning for all outbound prime product shipments.
Responsible to coordinate multiple transportation providers including rail, truck, air and ocean assets.
The position manages a work unit of primarily management/professional employees where monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required as well as training, developing and mentoring. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.
Typical internal customers include a Department or Business/Service Unit in a Division. External customers include eleven to twenty-five Dealers and their customers. The position is challenged to carefully evaluate problems and review a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions.
The position is required to travel frequently; up to a full week a month.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: The position requires thorough understanding of company policies and procedures as well as thorough product knowledge. Background in inventory management and control, purchasing, parts distribution plus strong analytical skills is desired. Significant knowledge of transportation and supply chain management is required. The position requires a college or university degree or equivalent experience. In addition a minimum of 5-7 or more years of job-related experience are typically required. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
