The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

This position will be responsible for leading teams across the second and third shift operations at the Undercarriage facility in East Peoria.  Accountable for overseeing all production activities within machining and assembly operations, including leadership for more than 100 hourly associates. Provide daily direction to Section Managers, Team Leads, and various levels of Operations support personnel.  Coordination of material, equipment, manpower and quality rests with this position as well as meeting customer build requirements.  Work direction, problem solving, Lean Leadership and coordination with support departments is a major responsibility.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines and manpower to achieve manufacturing safety, quality, velocity, and cost targets.  Initiates actions to overcome offending process causing delays.  Drives root cause problem solving through CPS, Built In Quality (BIQ) and Right Part Right Time (RPRT)

  • This position contributes to the total manufacturing effort through efficient integration of operations, logistics, maintenance, and quality to achieve targets for the assigned area.  Ensures production schedules can be met in a Lean Manufacturing environment to satisfy assembly line and parts schedule requirements. Initiates action to prevent component and assembly line shut downs and external customer impacts by informing maintenance or machine repair personnel of priorities, alerting Planning or Tooling engineers to manufacturing process changes, etc.

  • Strives to attain their primary responsibility of maintaining high performance and minimizing costs.  Analyzes burden and efficiency data to isolate problems and improve performance and costs.  Performs on-going evaluation of workloads and assists Section Managers in solving problems related to quality, work effort, grievances, cost drivers and general overall attitudes

  • Position should have good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations and commitment to controls and compliance

Group Manager responsibilities include:

  • Manages multiple sections and reports to the Undercarriage Facility Manager

  • Owns Lean and the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated

  • Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with Section Managers, Team Leads and Team Members.  Leads coaching for development and driving intentional personnel development plans

  • Understands near-term and long-term production plans and aligns staffing strategies to execute them

  • Drives root cause problem solving and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, production

  • Performs periodic audits for safety behaviors and conditions, 5S, quality, standard work, productivity and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience, ideally in Manufacturing Operations

  • Good understanding of Lean management, including Built In Quality (BIQ) and Right Part Right Time (RPRT) processes and tools, machining operations and techniques along with a good knowledge of component products

Top Candidates will also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, or active pursuit of one with current college coursework

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a variety of Staff and Supervisory positions in Manufacturing Operations to gain good understanding of CPS processes and tools, machining and assembly operations and techniques

  • Must be a strong communicator

  • Must have strong leadership and managerial skills to direct and motivate people to ensure divisional goals are met

Additional Information:   

The working hours of this position will typically be 2pm - 10pm, but can vary dependent on current business needs.

This position does offer relocation.
