Caterpillar Switchgear Americas, part of the Electric Power Division has an exciting opportunity for a Power Systems Engineering Manager in Alpharetta, GA.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers in the technical design and/or retrofit of power and generator control switchgear.

  • Lead a team of engineers on project execution while monitoring quality, costing, and timeliness of projects.

  • Train, mentor, and develop a team of engineers to improve their overall technical capabilities and align with the AES engineering department’s objectives and strategies.

  • Point of technical and commercial escalation for team members.

  • Conduct performance and merit reviews, and review and approve timesheets for team members

  • Actively lead new product development and enhancements to switchgear control retrofits.

  • Represent company with internal and external customers.

  • Assist other departments in the application of our products.

  • Execute and support the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear.

  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling switchgear controls.

  • Create bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in ERP system.

  • Create and modify PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear.

  • Position requires travel, typically 10 to 20% to support startup and commissioning activities, as well as safety audits.

  • Position reports to AES Engineering Manager.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology or minimum of 10 years work experience in a related field.

  • Design, test, and commission generator control systems of the highest complexity.

  • Have intimate knowledge of system operations and PLC/Controller based controls

  • Perform technical design reviews of other engineers’ systems.

  • Have a clear understanding of NEC, UL, ANSI, CSA and utility interconnect requirements.

  • Ability to accurately evaluate team’s workload, and delegate tasks as necessary.

  • Ability to edit, teach, and apply new designs to the company standards.

  • Challenge status quo and constantly strive for improvements in performance.
