We have a fixed term 2-year opportunity for a skilled Metallurgical/Materials Engineer to join our team in Peterborough.
In this role, you will provide materials engineering support to all of Caterpillar’s UK facilities, which provides the opportunity of being involved in investigating a wide range of different materials in multiple applications
Whilst this is a technical role, you will also be required to build collaborative partnerships across the Caterpillar UK facilities to provide feedback and insights to both internal and external audiences.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
As a Metallurgical / Materials Engineer in Caterpillar you will:
Partner with and provide technical guidance to other teams
Gather relevant information, compare, and contrast data; identify relationships to support you to predict and identify failures.
Provide analysis back into the business; his could be impactful analysis that may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers. This insight will have significant impact on warranty, total cost of non-quality, customer perception, costs, sales, and the leveraging of technology.
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Materials Science/Metallurgy degree and/or substantive practical working experience within a material analysis lab environment
Metallurgical / materials Evaluation of new products, processes, or systems;
Engaging communicator; able to convey technical analysis to both technical and non-technical colleagues
Providing technical guidance on product and process maintenance
Competent Identifying metallurgical / materials manufacturing defects and making process improvement recommendations
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Experience of working in an ISO17025 Accredited Laboratory
Experience of corrosion testing
