Role Definition

The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is looking for an Engineering Project Team Leader that can both lead and contribute to provide drivetrain solutions.  As a leader, you will lead a multifunctional, worldwide CPPD team responsible for the design, development, and validation of the lower powertrain system.  The candidate will direct work with global engineering support teams, suppliers, customers, and product group teams. The incumbent will demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving technical results. As a contributor, you will be asked to provide local technical leadership to solve complex problems.

What you will do

  • Lead a global engineering team with end-to-end product development responsibility for lower powertrain drivetrain system

  • Design and promote new products and processes related to drivetrain

  • Develop and manage large product development programs from start to finish

  • Deliver drivetrain system customer solutions by meeting or exceeding customer needs in performance, quality/durability, cost, and time to market

  • Communicate technical status and project status to supporting teams, project stakeholders, customers, and global manufacturing facilities

  • Support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers, mentor, coach and develop others, collaborate with clients and team members, complete design tradeoff studies, remove project obstacles, and represent company externally

  • The role will be both lead and contribute to drivetrain projects

  • Provide budgetary estimates and help define workload

Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited curriculum

 

Skills you must have

  • Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

  • Project Management : Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.

  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Product Design and Development : Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

 

Top Candidates will also have

  • Drivetrain experience either through design, validation, or manufacturing

  • Self-starter capabilities with strong technical and project leadership skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude of mechanical systems.

  • Strong communication skills – with ability to develop/deliver technical information to team members, employees in other business units, customers and suppliers

  • This position will close on 03/07/2025.

  • This position will be located in Mossville, IL (Building G).

  • Domestic relocation is Available

  • VISA Sponsorship is NOT Available

  • Travel requirements will be less than 10%.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
