Job Summary:

To direct and participate in the concept and design of complex engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.

What You Will Do:

As an Electrical Component Mechanical Engineer - you will contribute to the planning and development of creative and cost-effective electronic products. The solutions may encompass designing new, upgraded electronics to replace obsolete technology, which would include supplier selection and re-sourcing. The job function requires collaboration with cross functional teams and disciplines including engineering, logistics, manufacturing, and purchasing.

Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all the following:
- Contribute to establishing strategies to manage electronics over the complete life cycle.
- Capture and assess technological and commercial opportunities and risks
- Engage with system engineers, electronics manufacturers, and industry experts to develop design requirements and bring to production.
- Design, Review and/or approve mechanical tooling and electronics packaging.
- Test and validate solutions at both module and system level.
- Communicate technical information with suppliers, team members, and other business units in a concise manner.

Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology. Key skills to be developed at this level are failure prediction and management, technology time/cost analysis, spatial design, conceptual design, practical application of theory, knowledge of the NPI process, and communication skills.

Education Requirement:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum or a minimum of 7 years of industry experience in lieu of a degree.

• Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.

Product Design - HTH:
• Summarizes problems in the technical process and discrepancy between actual products and the vision.
• Analyzes the effectiveness of the new product design; incorporates advanced research into the overall design.
• Participates in the conception process of a hardware product vision.
• Utilizes design methods to implement the construction of a new design model according to plans.
• Analyzes the configuration of each component in relation to the overall product or product portfolio.

Mechanical Engineering - MFG:
• Works with basic, routine components of the mechanical engineering discipline in manufacturing.
• Performs testing and maintenance of electronic hardware.
• Uses software to draft drawings or writes specifications for specific mechanical engineering projects.
• Assists senior staff to resolve unusual mechanical problems; recommends ideas.
• Follows relevant standards, policies and practices in mechanical engineering.

Supplier Management - MFG:
• Follows procedures in carrying out routine supplier management tasks.
• Uses electronic systems or tools to record/retrieve supplier information and carry out transactions with suppliers.
• Resolves routine supplier issues; escalates non-routine issues up chain of command.
• Researches alternative vendors or suppliers; participates in supplier selection.
• Works with suppliers to ensure that purchases meet delivery date and quality specifications.

Top Candidates will also have:
• Incumbents must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.

• Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.

• Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.
• Experience leading NTI, NPI, or CPI projects with proven results
• Previous experience with both electronic components and systems
• Experience in leading problem resolution consensus meetings
• Experience managing multiple programs to break down roadblocks to meet program deliverables
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to creatively solve issues (NPI / CPI corrective actions)
• Good mechanical aptitude

Additional Information

The location for this position is Woodridge, IL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position will require less than 10% travel.
